What We Do

We innovate next generation flow electrochemical systems with potential to impact society, such as flow batteries and capacitive deionization cells. We explore and study relevant phenomena in the fields of multiphase flow and electrochemical systems, as well as use our insights to develop high performance proof-of-concept devices which store energy or desalinate water. We are actively seeking highly motivated Masters, PhD, and postdoctoral level students who are interested in interdisciplinary and fast-paced research with real-world applications.

Short bio of the lab director

The Cleantech Innovations Lab at the Technion is directed by Prof. Matthew Suss. Matthew obtained his PhD in 2013 in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. From 2010-2013, Matthew was a Lawrence Scholar at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and from 2013 to 2014 a Postdoctoral Associate in Chemical Engineering at MIT.
Currently, Matthew is an Associate Professor at Technion, and affiliated with the Grand Technion Energy Program (GTEP) and Grand Water Research Institute (GWRI). Matthew is a member of the Israel National Research Center for Electrochemical Propulsion (INREP) and on the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE) working group on electrochemical engineering. Matthew has co-authored 47 submitted or published journal papers, is co-inventor on 10 patent applications, and has delivered over a dozen plenary, keynote or invited lectures at leading international conferences.
